A Central Islip, New York millionaire couple was recently convicted of numerous charges including forced labor, conspiracy, involuntary servitude, and harboring aliens.
The Department of Justice announced that a Memphis man admitted to providing two juvenile girls to engage in commercial sex acts knowing that force, fraud and coercion had been used. Eight other defendants have pleaded guilty in this same case for crimes including child sex trafficking, conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens, conspiracy to commit money laundering, enticing an individual to travel in interstate commerce to commit prostitution, and failure to file a factual statement about an alien.
The U.S. forces the departure of a Kuwaiti diplomat from his post at the embassy in Washington, D.C. He was accused of treating his domestic servants in the U.S. like slaves. This is believed to be the first time the government has taken such strong action against a diplomat accused of abuse against domestic staff.
8 Indian nationals and one U.S. Citizen were indicted for illegally smuggling dozens of immigrants into the United States. As a fee for their services, they allegedly charges thousands of dollars per person. 8 of the 9 were arrested are arrested and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
